The BBAC was founded in 1965 and since then, through volunteers, has promoted the enjoyment, advancement and safety of lighter-than-air flight. It aids in the training of pilots and crew members, as well as encouraging the growth of lighter-than-air flying (hot air balloons, gas ballooning and airships), through everything from individual flying to large events. It also promotes competitive ballooning at both national and international level, with UK competition pilots becoming some of the best in the world.
Ballooning has a huge amount of history to it, going back further than the BBAC itself.
As with other sports, there are many records and awards that people can earn through their achievements and contributions to the sport.
